~~Dividing strings in Python~~

How is this code "dividing" by a string?

~~I'm not a Python developer, but I occasionally run across Python code, and I've encountered a weird syntax:~~
``` python
from library import HOME_DIRECTORY
file = HOME_DIRECTORY / "file.json"
```
~~It seems to be dividing a string by another string, and thereby performing some file operation, but~~
1) When I try to replicate this in the REPL, I get
~~> TypeError: unsupported operand type(s) for /;~~
2) I'm not sure what dividing strings would do even if I didn't get an error, and
~~3) I'm not sure what is supposed to be accomplished by doing that.~~
Can somebody explain what's going on here?

I found a strange expression in some Python code:
``` python
from library import HOME_DIRECTORY
file = HOME_DIRECTORY / "file.json"
```
It seems to be dividing a string by another string in order to do something with files.
However, I can't make this work in the REPL with my own strings:
```python
>>> "one" / "two"
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module>
TypeError: unsupported operand type(s) for /: 'str' and 'str'
```
What is the code actually doing? Even if it didn't cause an error, I can't guess what dividing strings would mean, or why it would be useful.
