How do I run Python scripts on Android devices?

There seem to be a bunch of different approaches; what are the advantages and disadvantages?

In no particular order (and likely missing some useful tools):

  • Kivy Python framework
  • Termux[1]
  • Pyodide
  • Scripting Layer for Android
  • python-for-android
  • Pydroid 3
  • QPython
  • Chaquopy[1:1]
  • pyqtdeploy[1:2]
  • Buildozer[1:3]
  • Briefcase[1:4]
  • Pyjnius
  • Transcrypt
  • Brython
  • JavaScripthon
  • JS2Py
  • PyScript
  • py2wasm
  • PyPy.js
  • MicroPython.js / MicroPython.wasm
  • "RPython WASM"
  • ... any others I've missed?

  1. Mentioned in the "Using Python on Android" section of the official Python documentation ↩︎ ↩︎ ↩︎ ↩︎ ↩︎

Unsure if this is on topic (it's searching for a library). Reference: https://software.codidact.com/posts/293871/293875#answer-293875

I wondered the same thing when I saw this question. I think it should be more focused. For example, picking a couple of tools/libraries and specifically asking for them (ideally with some minimal research).

Aside from the tool-choice issue, the question seems confused. It asks about running scripts, but most of these tools are for packaging and distributing them. And some of them are completely unrelated; e.g. Kivy is a GUI framework.
