Migrating a MediaWiki website to Drupal

I consider to migrate a large MediaWiki website to Drupal 9.

All the webpages include MediaWiki syntax, just one example is the link syntax:

  • [[ARTICLE NAME|LINK_TEXT]] for internal links
  • [URL LINK_TEXT] for external links

My problem is that everything I will copy with MediaWiki syntax into Drupal 9 will remain with Wiki Syntax and in Drupal would just be gibberish.

How would you suggest to solve that problem?

Unrelated to the question you're asking, but I do suggest keeping in mind that while Drupal minor upgrades are usually painless, major version upgrades can intentionally be a real pain, especially if you use plugins. You may want to give some consideration to this before you commit to Drupal, especially for a large site. I have migrated some web sites away from Drupal for precisely that reason.

Yes, I know what you mean, I agree, perhaps in Drupal 10 the automated upgrades initiation would be finished: https://www.drupal.org/about/core/strategic-initiatives/automatic-updates
