Self answered questions about an unclear quickstart
I had problems following the directions of a Google Apps Script API quickstart. I think that the quickstart instructions and code is incomplete. After a while, I finally realized that there was misleading stuff. I'm keeping the details to be posted later, i.e., in a self-answered question, if something like this might be interesting for this community.
Stuff used
- Mac Mini (ISP, etc.)
- Google Cloud console and project
- Google Apps Script: project, code editor, deployment, API.
- Visual Studio Code
- HTML
- JavaScript
- Google Chrome
I also used Node.js and the related stuff to run a web server, but it might be omitted in the question as it's finally irrelevant as the problem can be reproduced with static / local HTML and JavaScript files.
I wonder if what I have learned might be posted here, probably as a self-answered question.
I'm asking because I haven't seen in Codidact questions about Google Apps Script, Google Workspace and Google Cloud. I have seen questions about Google Sheets, but most are about simple spreadsheet formulas; none are about custom functions, Google Apps Script / JavaScript, the Google Sheets API or integrating it with other stuff.
I have searched and not found any questions about my problem, but I do not discard that someone might point me to something I missed in the documentation on a Q&A site or other online resource.

Quick starting with an API is definitely ontopic and especially helpful for newbies who struggle to understand the "spirit" of that API.
Even if nobody else from the community is into Google Apps Script API right now, I am pretty sure it will help future readers.
If you have the time, please consider posting this as a self-answered Q&A.
