These are just my thoughts, not an official policy prescription as a moderator.

* If you're asking because you need an answer, please ask here first, and only cross-post to Stack Overflow if you can't get an answer here. We need the volume, and workshopping a post here will help make sure it avoids being closed over there.

* If you're trying to share new knowledge in both places, go for it. Of course, [look for duplicates in both places first](https://meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/261592).

* If you saw something on Stack Overflow that you think would be useful to have asked and answered here, please take the opportunity to revise the question and don't just copy it verbatim. Better yet: look around for similar Stack Overflow questions, and see if you can identify a way to ask that's more useful — with a slightly broader, but still coherent scope.

  Of course, if you migrate answers, make sure to:

  * give proper attribution for anything that isn't your own idea, and honour any relevant content licenses

  * adapt the answer to the new question text, if applicable

* If you saw something here that you want to expose to a wider audience, go for it! A little plug for Codidact would be appreciated, too (but make sure not to fall afoul [of Stack Overflow guidelines on "promotion"](https://stackoverflow.com/help/promotion)). Keep in mind that it might get closed as a duplicate, of course — after all, they have way more questions than us already, so the odds are much higher of a match already existing. I'd like to think that our content is overall better quality due to being more carefully curated by an active, involved community; and [in principle, better versions of an old question should be preferred over there](https://meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/251938) (and here!) — but that often doesn't happen.

* If your answer on a Stack Overflow question just happens to be useful as an answer to a Codidact question, there are no restrictions. It's your content and you have not waived copyright to it at any point. Of course, if it refers to a specific example in the Stack Overflow version of the question, you'll want to patch that up (unless the Codidact question just happens to use an identical example).
