I was inspired by the contests on Outdoors and Writing, and thought that having some challenges over here would be fun as well. What do you all think about adding a new category where people can post some coding challenges to the site? We could start by having a monthly contest, like on the other sites, and build from there.

Not sure, when exactly Code Golf was founded, but it cannot be very long after this question was asked. I would therefore suggest that Code Golf challenges remain off-topic here and we refer to the Code Golf community instead.

Not sure if there are other programming challenges that would be offtopic in Code Golf as well. If there are, one would need to weigh the pros and cons carefully. On the one side learning within challenges works and is fun (see kaggle.com for example) and I could imagine a new post type that for example let's you see the answer only after you done a multiple choice test on the question or after some time after first seeing the question, but the competition out there already is intense. I do not see us getting an edge there. Q&A may remain the focus for now and branching out may be something for later, but not now.

Code Golf Codidact was launched about three months after this question was posted. https://meta.codidact.com/posts/41993/history

If one checks history, the exact data is posted. The question here was posted at 2020-08-14 but Code Golf was launched 2020-11-13. I think everyone agrees that code challenges should be posted at Code Golf and that they are off-topic here.

Thanks both for extracting the date when Code Golf launched. Lundin‭ I sometimes like to write down the obvious, mostly because it makes it easier for me to remember things. I hope it's not a too annoying habit. :)

Trilarion‭ It's always good to have a meta thread pointing out that something is off-topic, since I just now noticed that code golf and puzzles/challenges aren't covered by our on-topic page. https://software.codidact.com/help/on-topic

I now proposed to add code golf as off-topic here: https://software.codidact.com/posts/278648/285266#answer-285266
