Resolving "fatal: Unable to find remote helper for 'https'" and a warning about templates
On a live boot of Ubuntu 20.04, I was trying to clone into a private GitHub repository. I went through the hassle of installing git
, and then gh
, and making sure I was signed in through the terminal. I then tried to clone into the repository, and got this:
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ gh repo clone GHUser/business-repo
Cloning into 'business-repo'...
warning: templates not found /usr/share/git-core/templates
fatal: Unable to find remote helper for 'https'
exit status 128
cd
ing through the terminal, I verified that /usr/share/git-core/templates
did indeed exist and was populated with folders and files.
For the "Unable to find remote helper" issue, I found this answer on Some Other site, which advised running sudo apt-get install libcurl4-openssl-dev
to solve the problem on Ubuntu. I did that, uninstalled git, reinstalled git, and relaunched the terminal session, but still got the exact same errors.
What do I need to do to resolve these problems, taking into account that it's a live boot with nothing pre-installed on the OS?
