I went ahead and made a proposal on Power User that a separate category for office suites should be made. I suggest that we wait and see where that proposal lands.
If a category for these questions is made, we can go ahead and migrate. (Such a category would also soften the "bump blow" that comes from migrating some I dunno, some 50 questions(?), from here to there.)
In the meantime we can discuss overlapping scopes. I think most agree that excel formulas etc are more suited for Power User. But in the above proposal I also identified two more overlaps with this site: VBA and MS Access. These sit in some grey area between Software Development and Power Users. We know from SO that what to do with VBA (and excel) questions were a constant source of conflict. Better to discuss sooner rather than later what to do with such questions.
EDIT as per 2021-06-08:
My proposal wasn't well-received and it's unlikely that a category will get created. So I'd say just go ahead and migrate. If someone whines about bumping/bombardment of office suite questions, well they have been warned that could have been avoided.
My vote is also for moving such Qs. Main arguments:
- PU already contains some Qs related to office suite and they're OnTopic there.
- This kind of Qs doesn't fit well to software development. So it might confuse newcomers when it comes to what is ontopic here.
I'm writing it as a separate answer to bring back activity to this discussion. Let's make some decision already.
I had seen 3 "related" question for this :
- Office suites category ~ proposed by @Lundin (My answer)
- Software Recommendations Category ~ proposed by @Moshi (My answer)
- Site for office suites ~ proposed by @SeverusSnape (My answer)
All of these question are related. That's why I linked all of them one to another.
In site for office suites
proposal @pnuts said :
Stack Overflow [SO] currently has over 1,000 Qs tagged both [excel] and [google-sheets], some Qs with tags for three different suites.
I have different opinion. As we know Software Codidact is for programming related Q&A. And, Office Suites aren't related to programming. So, that's completely off-topic in Software Codidact. But, in Software Codidact peoples had asked more than 50 questions related to Office Suites (Just guessing the number). In Power Users peoples had asked nearly 8 questions related to Office Suites.
I think Power Users is best suit for Office Suites question. But, Power Users and Linux Codidact is for "OS" related Q&A. So, it would be better if there was other category for Software Related Q&A.
Do creating new categories for per 100 software make sense?
So, if there was any Software Category where we can ask about any Software related Questions than, it would helpful. If staffs create two category one for Office Suites and, another for Software. But, Software can contains Office Suites. So, Office Suites category isn't a good idea.
Wait until moderator create a category/site for Office suites/Software.
