Thanks. I could have tried that. I wonder, does that mean that normal users could potentially cheat their way around confirmation by sending some kind of response/request during sign-in that not only provides a user name, email, password but also a confirmed_at field or is devise prohibiting this in ... Question | — |
How to allow sign-ups without confirmation as an exception using devise confirmable? I use the devise authentication gem for a Rails application and it's very convenient. Typically I want my users to confirm their registration by email. Therefore the `User` model looks like ``` class User Searching for this only delivered general configuration information for devise. I fully agree with you. There should be absolutely no interest in repeating that experience. I have seen it too on SO for many years. But I would also like to discuss this more, maybe in another topic. I think about: is genuine interest sufficient to stop endless floods of low quality questions and h... (more) |

"It is not OK to ask to have free code written by unpaid volunteers..." I know what you mean and I agree that askers should also invest time, at least in asking a clear, focused question and searching for solutions, but apart from this I think that indeed at the core software Q&A does write free code... Question | — |
How to best ask about algorithmic problems The question How to efficiently remove every occurrence of one string inside another and discussions in the comments there got me thinking about the best way to ask about algorithmic problems. In particular, which pitfalls should be avoided to not make the question off-topic? Some issues I see: ... (more) |

"I think this would be an important advantage over SO..." But it's not yet the case, so maybe one should implement it before advertising it. I'm unsure about the quality of questions here. Some are good, some are not so good. So far, the number of new questions isn't very high. Otherwise we would hav... (more) |

Different post types possible, for example Wiki like posts for canonical knowledge (like NullPointer/OutOfBoundsExceptions). A bit like Articles on SE only available for everyone and with a clearer use case. (more) |

If they are offtopic here, they should either get migrated to powerusers or simply get closed/deleted. Of course we should ask before if power users wants to have them (even without a dedicated category) and the question would be if the software allows this migration. (more) |

@Lundin You mean there is no complete solution to the whole problem possible within reasonable space in an answer or it would not be instructive to read about the whole solution in one go? I mostly take home that the problem might still be too broad and needs to be divided into smaller pieces. (more) |

Maybe we could assume that the asker has knowledge of C but doesn't know of any algorithm to accomplish the task. An answer could then first explain a suitable algorithm (relying only on tools available in C) and then simply present an implementation in C without much explanation. That's at least the... (more) |

@Alexei I think that the problem is now quite specific and clear and the solution would fit into an answer. There is not much research and it's a "do my work for me" question, but then all questions are to some extent. We probably need a meta discussion about how much prior effort must be in a questi... Also, even imported content must further be curated (kept uptodate) which requires users to work on it. So we mostly need to grow the number of users I would say now, not so much the content even though both are related. (more) |

I would simply replace it everywhere, where it's not necessary. There does not seem to be any advantage to it and surely some visitors won't like it. You already write that it's not a huge deal either way. For me, I would probably always make an edit. (more) |

The comment box is fix. At least vertically it could be resized maybe. So status-completed would be not right here. But then I also wouldn't want to resize it, it's large enough as it is currently. (more) |

You probably mean a development roadmap of the software powering CD. I think it's a good suggestion but there is no roadmap currently, or probably only in the minds of the main programmers (ArtOfCode, luap42).
Maybe they can write something down if they have time. With volunteering work time estim... (more) |

A: Code Challenges Category (Code Golfing & others) Not sure, when exactly Code Golf was founded, but it cannot be very long after this question was asked. I would therefore suggest that Code Golf challenges remain off-topic here and we refer to the Code Golf community instead. Not sure if there are other programming challenges that would be offtop...
